SAN DIEGO, CA: ATHENAEUM MUSIC & ARTS LIBRARY

Join us for a special edition of the American Mirror Project, inspired by the stories of the immigrants and refugees who have shaped the rich fabric of the United States.

Movements by Benjamin Britten and Erwin Schulhoff are woven together to illuminate two very different journeys of artists attempting to flee Europe during the Second World War. In 1008 Wall Street, Deborah Pae explores the Indigenous history of the land on which the Athenaeum now stands.

After intermission, the Formosa Quartet presents Compass, a specially curated set tracing the roots and evolution of iconic musical traditions from across the United States. We conclude the evening with the very first American Mirror Project commission, Dana Wilson's Mirror.
